Okay, we are focussing more in electrics, but this picture is too nice not to show. The new Europorte no.4013 bringing three left-over class66 locomotives from The Netherlands to France. There they continued their journey through the Channel Tunnel to the UK.

The three grey Class66 locomotives have been built a few years ago for Crossrail Benelux. However, the operator cancelled the order and the units, originally numbered as DE6313/15/16, were never delivered as such and stored in Roosendaal (NL).

Recently they were sold to GB Railfreight from the UK, that will operate them as 66747, 66749 and 66748. - MS/MLD/MC

A picture made on 02.12.2012 of the first Euro4000 locomotive for French operator VFLI. Beacon Rail receives six such locomotives, the designated E4017-E4022, to be leased to VFLI. Delivery is planned for January 2013 (3 units) and June 2013 (the other three). - MA / Beacon Rail

e.g.o.o. 223 156 got its final livery last week. It is now painted in green, similar to 223 141. A nice image.

During a visit to the Netinera Werke, the new Metrans 761 005-8 and Metrans 761 007-4 were photographed. - SC
News collected from the paint shops in the last couple of months:

- RTC ES 64 F4-007 has been repainted in the blue zebra-livery in Kassel.
- Captrain 185 550 now has the Captrain livery too.
- New logos for the LTE EuroRunner locomotives.
- Hector Rail ES 64 U2-017 is in Linz. Its black livery is replaced with orange and grey
- More Akiem 37000s re-appear in a neutral silver livery; 37013, 37016 and 37017.

The image shows a GE Powerhaul locomotive with UK loading gauge, that has been assembled by Tülomsas in Turkey. The green machine was already completed in February 2011 and used as demonstrator by the Turkish railways. Then it was shipped to the UK.

The locomotive arrived at the harbour of Newport on 16.10.2012, where the Turkish stickers still had to be removed. The machine now carries service number 70099. - WW/MB

update: Currently the unit is at BRUSH works in Loughborough, for evaluation prior to tests with freight companies in the UK. - DA

Recently, Vossloh completed the delivery of fourteen Euro4000 locomotives for the railways of Israel. Two images of the 1400 series in revenue service. - AS
The second (and last) EuroRunner locomotive for Adria Transport, unit 2016 921 is ready for service. In the past week it was repainted from white to blue and silver in Linz. - HP
A portrait of OHE 270080 made yesterday. Note that the locomotive has several new logos. - KAR

During InnoTrans 2012, Bombardier's biggest innovation on 1:1 scale was the four engine TRAXX DE locomotive. They even saved a special works number for the locomotive at the fair (the designated unit 245 003); no. 35000.

We are especially curious for the results are in practice, results regarding efficiency, eco-friendlyness (as far as you can call a diesel combustion engine eco-friendly anyway) and the advantages of the redundancy of the concept.

Last Sunday, we came across this picture of an EuroLight locomotive with Italian-style NVR numbers. These numbers end with the remarkable combination of I-VE, Vossloh Espana in Italy... A second picture we've found shows the machine without its bogies one day earlier.

The engine in the picture is not new. We are talking about Vossloh no. 2604 here, which we first saw during the Innotrans 2010 railway fair.

After the pictures from the harbor of Barcelona, no sign of the machine anymore. It is not on the InnoTrans, and no-one saw it arriving in Italy. Until now. Here you see the engine during transport in Collegno.

The state railways of Israel have placed an order for nine extra Euro3000 locomotives from Vossloh Espana. Delivery will start in November 2013. They will be similar to Renfe's 334 series, also with a top speed of 160 kph. - HD

Vossloh is already building Euro3000 units for Israel. The delivery of this batch of 15 should start this month.

All Macosa/Alstom/Vossloh+EMD locomotives in Israel:
JT42CW: 8, in service as 702-709
JT42BW: 48, in service as 731-778
Euro3000 (2011): 15 on order
Euro3000 (2012): 9 on order

GE's new powerhaul PH37ACi in the livery of HHPI on 08.09.2012 - CK

More and more vehicles are coming in for the exhibition on Innotrans 2012. Quite a surprise is the 'continental' version of the GE Powerhaul platform (PH37ACi). It's form is quite different from the UK version delivered to Freightliner and the demonstrator used by the Turkish railways (GE type PH37ACmi).

On 09.09.2012, 186 184 picked up the Powerhaul '29008', sporting the livery of German freight operator HHPI, in Paderborn. - via DerAltenbekener on drehscheibe-foren.de

Yesterday was a good day for trainspotting at Kassel. When you drove along the factory area of Bombardier, many different interesting locomotives were visible.

First there was the light grey 146 552-5, one of the first units to be completed for DB Transport, to be used with new 'Intercity'-double deck trains. Next was 'Last Mile' 187 001, getting ready for the Innotrans as it has now special flexpanels for this fair. Also around was 245 003-9 for DB Regio, making its first test rounds.

Currently, St&H newbees 2016 912 and 913 are in Linz for final adjustments and of course a good repaint. The image shows the 912 in its final red livery. Logos are still to come. - KK

Freshly delivered! - GT

The very last EuroRunner diesel-electric locomotive is sold: Adria Transport from Slovenia has purchased its second ER20 unit. It already operates one machine with service number 2016 920 since last year. - Siemens In the past weeks, there was a small run on the very last stock units that Siemens built in 2011. Stern&Hafferl got two, and Metrans three machines, leaving only one white machine (Siemens 21690 / Siemens Vorratslok no.65) for sale.

In total, Siemens has produced 181 units of this locomotive type, of which the majority (100) is property of the Austrian state railways. Now it has to make room for its successor: the Vectron DE. From the Siemens press statement:

The successor of the highly popular Eurorunner ER20 is the Vectron DE. The vehicle concept is a consistent, further development of the Eurorunner, utilizing the maximum number of meaningful synergies with the electric variants of the Vectron. The Vectron leverages the operating and project experience gained from over 1,600 Eurosprinters and Eurorunners. Market demands, customer feedback and customer interviews have been channeled into its development along with the new normative requirements (e.g. with regard to crashworthiness and reduced emissions) and the sensitivity analyses of technical parameters and solutions. In addition, a number of improvements have been deliberately implemented in the Vectron DE. Compared to the ER20, various performance parameters, such as the diesel engine power rating and the performance and braking power of the electric brake, have also been improved. In times of ever increasing fuel costs, special priority has been attached to low fuel consumption.

On 17.07.2012, President Ahmadinejad and officials of Alborz Province attended the official in auguration of the first locomotive factory in Karaj, Iran. Here, the Iranian industrial group MAPNA is initially producing 120 Siemens-licensed diesel-locomotives. Iran wants to increase its number of locomotives up to six hundred, and reduce the average fuel consumption of its fleet.

Siemens and the Iranian railways (RAI) have a contract for 150 diesel-electric, single cab locomotives. In 2010 and 2011, the Siemens factory in Munich already delivered the first thirty units; RAI no. 1501-1530. For the others a technology transfer was realized with MAPNA. The order is surely controversial, like all business with Iran in the current situation. From political side, Siemens was forced to state that it would not accept new orders from this country after this locomotive deal.

On 18.07.2012, the new, fourth EuroRunner for operator Metrans arrived in the Czech Republic. Images here and here. Via K-report.

the official data: Siemens 21684 - Metrans 761 004-1

In 2013, Siemens will deliver another three EuroRunners to Metrans, operator from the Czech Republic. The additional machines will predominantly be operated in Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.

In the mean time, EuroRunner no.4 also still needs to be delivered. This is scheduled for the next weeks. Metrans is very satisfied with their Siemens machines. The three units, that are in service since 2011, have already completed a 500.000 km with their freight trains. - Siemens

On Friday 29.06.2012, Ms. Barbara Pirch and her 194 178 were seen hauling two new EuroRunner locomotives. Both units, still in the neutral white livery of all EuroRunners coming from the Neustrelitz production line:

Siemens 21685 - St&H 2016 912
Siemens 21686 - St&H 2016 913

Stern&Hafferl (St&H) is their new owner. This company already has two EuroRunner locomotives, 2016 910 from 2008 and 2016 911 from 2009. - DSO/MB/Siemens/LJ

On 01.07.2012, Siemens invited everyone to come and take a look at its Wegberg-Wildenrath test center. Visitors could run the T2 and T3 test oval with Schienenbusse and a Belgian Desiro-ML. There was a world attempt with BRIO-tracks. Girls were extracting DNA from unions etc etc. There were many Siemens trains standing around. Some open for public, others hidden in the background. We wouldn't be surprized of all 15 Velaro-D trainsets were present. The same for many Desiro-ML trainsets (for example 08521, 08523) and locomotives for Belgium. Trams were being repaired after heavy crashes, locomotives were refitted with ETCS. Much to see. A big thanks to Siemens to give us this opportunity. Our report of the day:

EuroSprinter for sale! (black vs. white)
For anyone still interested: Siemens still has three 189 series locomotives for sale: E 189 845, 822 and 823. All three were present during the day, parked next to a black one: ES 64 F4-995.

PCW Thunderbirds are go!

In Wegberg, Siemens has several locomotives used for shunting. The have PCW numbers. PCW 6 is a red Vossloh G800BB, PCW 7 is the EuroRunner and the EuroSprinter godfather is now PCW 8. The question however still remains, will PCW 8 ever run again? For two years now, the machine is parked in Wegberg, have some sort of damage... PCW 7 presented itself in two different sizes. However, the model was a silver scale locomotive, with small inkjet-printed paper logos and graphics.

Everybody Vectron!

A long waiting queue was there all day. Everybody wanted to climb into Vectron 193 922, parked outside. We did not go in, but made some nice close-ups of the exterior and some impressions. Again a tip for everyone looking for works numbers (193 924 = SMP 21697) of Siemens locomotives: go to cab no.1, check the frame right above the right buffer. Good luck!

Hide and seek
Some locomotives did not like all the attention. One had to know what to look for to find them. All in the back of the halls we could see 193 901 (the only Vectron now with the old, Belgian front bow) and Rail One's 474 102. Hidden in the bush outside, two Traxx locomotives were spotted; 186 121 (edit) in Fyra-colors and IGT 246 011 still celebrating German's 150th railways anniversary. Behind ES 64 F4-453 we could identify ES 64 F4-409 and Nordcargo 474 201. - DvdR

SNCB 19 vs Vectron and the auto-coupler
Around fifteen HLE 19 series locomotives were seen in Wegberg. The 1909, 1906 and 1913 were in front of the public. We took the opportunity to make some good close-ups of 1906 and its Schwab-coupler system, that what makes the HLE19 different from its normal HLE18 sisters. Also note the special steel, futuristic construction behind it.

And in the mean while in Mönchengladbach...
And in the mean while in Mönchengladbach... ES 64 F4-406 with CFI-logos is ready to go back to Italy. - TW

Starting in 2013, Bombardier will deliver the first twenty multi-engine Traxx DE locomotives to the Deutsch Bahn (DE). The new 245 series will be allocated in:

245 001-007 > Kempten
245 008-015 > Mühldorf
245 016-020 > Frankfurt-Griesheim

This year, Vossloh in Valencia will deliver ten new Euro locomotives to Europorte from France. The first one of this new batch is Europorte 4007. It came from Valencia to Barcelona last week. It has the known blue and silver livery with provisionally looking Europorte logos. - TL

Here one can see the 4007 in Barcelona, where it arrived by truck from Valencia. From there on the journey to France continued by rail.

The Eisenbahngesellschaft Ostfriesland-Oldenburg mbH from Aurich got its second EuroRunner; e.g.o.o. 223 156. - JM
Forget red, think yellow. On 21.03.2012, Ferrovial from Spain got the official license for running its own trains. Since February it already had the permission to operate on the ADIF-network. This week we got several nice impressions of the shiny Ferrovial 335 031 hauling construction trains, all in a corresponding yellow colour. - KAR/HD
Metrans has decided to purchase another EuroRunner diesel-electric locomotive. Currently its fleet includes the 761 001, 002 and 003, that already have completed a 300.000 km in revenue service, in mainly Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. Because transport volume is rising, an extra locomotive is needed. - Siemens

BTW, also the fleet of electrics is growing (although all hired from Railpool): 186 182 and 240 were used throughout 2011, now this has changed into 186 181, 182, 183 and 187. 186 240 lost its Bombardier stickers and got Railpool and Rurtalbahn logos.

According to morgenpost.de, Vossloh has found a second customer in France for its Euro 4000 locomotives; Voies Ferrées Locales et Industrielles (VFLI) has ordered six locomotives, to be leased via Beacon Rail. The delivery will start in January 2013.

It is the second customer for Vossloh in France. Europorte already operates six machines (four units also leased from Beacon Rail and two have been purchased in 2011) and has still ten more units on order.

Direct Rail Services (DRS), the UK’s leading rail freight operator, has recently ordered a fleet to of newly designed mixed traffic diesel locomotives for use in its key intermodal and passenger train operations.

The Vossloh Espana Eurolight UK locomotives are a derivative of the Eurolight locomotive (already running in Germany) and have been developed for the UK in conjunction with Beacon Rail Leasing and DRS. Due to arrive in the UK in late 2013 the locos feature a 3750hp Caterpillar c175 engine and ABB AC traction equipment delivering a top speed of 100 mph (=160 kph) and genuine mixed traffic haulage capabilities.

The locos will feature the latest emission standards and set new standards for driver environment. The initial order has been placed for 15 locos with further options for future orders. - DRS

There is no official press statement yet, but railway-centre.com has published the news that UK-based operator Direct Rail Services will be the launch customer for Vossloh's EuroLIGHT platform. Fifteen units have been ordered, with an option for fifteen more. Finally, class67 will get some offspring. - EP
We did not notice it up till now, but the livery of PCW locomotive no.7 has changed. The sides of its cabs were white originally, now they are blue. Thanks for noticing! - WS
