Today, Railway Gazette International reports that CargoNet and iron ore mining company Rana Gruber signed a contract on March 27 for the transport of iron ore from Ørtfjell to Mo i Rana. On September 1, the new contract will come into force, ending the current one with operator Cargolink.
CargoNet will use its EURO 4000 locomotives leased from Beacon Rail Leasing for the new flows. Together with the deployment of new and heavier iron ore wagons, the mining company aims to increase the capacity of the rail link between the mine and the processing plant.
